In Leonida

Vice City

The city Leonida is known for, and the centre of gravity for most of what happens in it — the money, the music business and the people with an interest in both.

What Rockstar has confirmed

Vice City

Vice City returns, as Leonida's principal city.

Murals by the people who paint them

Rockstar says more than fifty working street artists were commissioned to produce murals for the game.

Reported by trusted sources

The Megamundo opening

The pair are hired as security for a media executive at the Vice City launch of Megamundo, a Spanish-language broadcaster opening its first American headquarters. Armed men storm the tower and take hostages, and Jason and Lucia end up fighting on separate floors.

The executive's name is reported rather than published: Rockstar has printed no spelling of it, and the outlets covering the sequence are transcribing what they heard.

Inside Vice City

  • Ocean Beach

Vice City's art deco seafront: pastel hotels above bright white sand.

  • Little Cuba

One of Vice City's busier neighbourhoods, and the one its bakeries are known for.

  • VC Port

Vice City's port, and the biggest cruise-ship destination in the world.

Vice City in the series

Grand Theft Auto VI is not the first time the series has built this place. Each entry below is that title’s own version of it, newest release first, and none of them describes the one Rockstar is building now.

Our coverage

  • Coverage

GTA 6 Extended Look: every detail, feature and discovery

Rockstar showed twenty-six minutes of Grand Theft Auto VI running on a PlayStation 5. Here is everything it establishes about how the game plays, everything it only suggests, and the difference between the two.

  • Explainer

Everything confirmed about Grand Theft Auto VI

The date, the platforms, the setting, the cast and the story so far — every detail Rockstar has actually confirmed about Grand Theft Auto VI, and an honest account of what they have not.

  • Explainer

Who's who in Leonida: the confirmed cast

Everyone Rockstar has named for Grand Theft Auto VI, how they divide between the Keys and the city, and what that split already suggests about the shape of the story.

The rest of Leonida

  • An aerial view of the Leonida Keys, a highway bridge running between wooded islands with a seaplane in flight and the Vice City skyline on the horizon.

    Region

    Leonida Keys

The island chain at the southern end of the state, and long-standing ground for anyone moving product by water. Jason works here; Brian has been working here a great deal longer.

  • The neon sign of the Starlet Motel in Port Gellhorn at dusk, palm trees and a pickup truck beyond it.

    Region

    Port Gellhorn

Leonida's forgotten coast. The tourists stopped coming back and left cheap motels, dead attractions and empty strip malls behind them; the economy that took over runs on painkillers, malt liquor and whatever the truck stops sell.

  • Open sawgrass wetland in the Grassrivers under a wide sky, alligators in the shallow water and a pickup running ahead of a police car, with an airboat and a helicopter behind.

    Region

    Grassrivers

The wetlands, and the part of the state nobody has managed to tame. Alligators are what the place is known for; they are not the most dangerous thing in the water, and the mangroves hide stranger things still.

  • Crop fields burning at sunset in Ambrosia, smoke drifting across the rows beneath power lines, with a plant and its chimneys on the far ridge.

    Region

    Ambrosia

The middle of the state, where industry and old-fashioned values still hold, whatever it costs to keep them. The Allied Crystal sugar refinery is what the place works for; the local biker club runs most of what it does not.

  • A road winding through a wooded gorge in Mount Kalaga National Park, red rock walls on both sides and a bridge crossing high above it.

    Landmark

    Mount Kalaga National Park

A national landmark on the state's northern border, and the outdoors end of Leonida — hunting, fishing and off-road trails through thick backwoods. The people living out in them have gone to some trouble to be left alone.
