State

Leonida

The state the game takes place in, and the reach of the conspiracy Jason and Lucia end up inside. Vice City is its best-known address, but the state runs a long way past it.

What Rockstar has confirmed

The state

Grand Theft Auto VI is set in the state of Leonida.

The premise

A score that goes wrong pulls the pair into a criminal conspiracy running across the state.

Inside Leonida

  • The Vice City sign lit against a pink sunset as an airliner passes low overhead.

    City

    Vice City

The city Leonida is known for, and the centre of gravity for most of what happens in it — the money, the music business and the people with an interest in both.

    Lucia CaminosJason Duval

  • An aerial view of the Leonida Keys, a highway bridge running between wooded islands with a seaplane in flight and the Vice City skyline on the horizon.

    Region

    Leonida Keys

The island chain at the southern end of the state, and long-standing ground for anyone moving product by water. Jason works here; Brian has been working here a great deal longer.

    Jason Duval

  • The neon sign of the Starlet Motel in Port Gellhorn at dusk, palm trees and a pickup truck beyond it.

    Region

    Port Gellhorn

Leonida's forgotten coast. The tourists stopped coming back and left cheap motels, dead attractions and empty strip malls behind them; the economy that took over runs on painkillers, malt liquor and whatever the truck stops sell.

  • Open sawgrass wetland in the Grassrivers under a wide sky, alligators in the shallow water and a pickup running ahead of a police car, with an airboat and a helicopter behind.

    Region

    Grassrivers

The wetlands, and the part of the state nobody has managed to tame. Alligators are what the place is known for; they are not the most dangerous thing in the water, and the mangroves hide stranger things still.

  • Crop fields burning at sunset in Ambrosia, smoke drifting across the rows beneath power lines, with a plant and its chimneys on the far ridge.

    Region

    Ambrosia

The middle of the state, where industry and old-fashioned values still hold, whatever it costs to keep them. The Allied Crystal sugar refinery is what the place works for; the local biker club runs most of what it does not.

  • A road winding through a wooded gorge in Mount Kalaga National Park, red rock walls on both sides and a bridge crossing high above it.

    Landmark

    Mount Kalaga National Park

A national landmark on the state's northern border, and the outdoors end of Leonida — hunting, fishing and off-road trails through thick backwoods. The people living out in them have gone to some trouble to be left alone.
