The record

GTA 6 intelligence

What is actually known about Grand Theft Auto VI and what is only being reported — every claim with where it came from, what supports it, what contradicts it, and how much weight it can carry.

Ten claims stand on this record today: two confirmed by Rockstar, six still unconfirmed and two no longer standing.

Nothing here becomes a fact on this site because it appears here. A claim joins our confirmed record when Rockstar states it, and not before — so a report can be published, weighed and linked to for as long as it takes, without ever quietly turning into something we assert. What each assessment means.

Confirmed

What Rockstar has confirmed

Claims the publisher has since stated themselves. These are the only ones this site publishes as fact — the entry here is the account of how each one got there, not a second copy of it.

Unconfirmed

What is being said

Reported, observed or inferred, and not confirmed by Rockstar. Read the assessment on each one: they are not equally strong and this page does not present them as though they were.

The wanted level reaches six stars

Grand Theft Auto VI's wanted level scale goes to six stars, one more than Grand Theft Auto V's five.

One outlet with briefing access, stating a specific number. That is a report and a good one, and it is the whole of the evidence: Rockstar has published nothing about the scale, and the four stars visible during the Bautista pursuit establish a level that occurred rather than a ceiling. Game Informer's account of the same sequence counts four and draws no conclusion about the maximum, which is not a contradiction of PC Gamer — the two are answering different questions, and only one of them is checkable.

    Where it came from

PC Gamer's reveal breakdown, written from Rockstar's preview briefing as well as from the broadcast. The figure is not in the broadcast, and no other outlet covering the night states it.

    What supports it

The police identify you by what you wore and drove

When the police are looking for Jason or Lucia they identify them against three things — clothing, appearance, and vehicle — each shown as its own icon.

Specific enough to be describing something real — three named categories and the icons for them is not the shape of a guess — and unsupported by anything a reader can look at. The Extended Look's pursuit sequences show a wanted level and no recognition interface at all. Held as reported until Rockstar shows it or a second outlet describes the same screen.

    Where it came from

PC Gamer's breakdown, describing an interface with a hanger, a face and a car on it. Nothing of the kind appears in the broadcast.

    What supports it

Thirty frames per second on console at launch

Grand Theft Auto VI runs at thirty frames per second on console, with no performance mode available at launch.

A reputable newsroom stating a specific technical figure it was given directly. It is the strongest kind of report and it is still a report — Rockstar has published nothing about frame rate on any of their own pages, and the presentation carries no counter of any kind. We do not adopt an outlet's own assessment of its own strength.

    Where it came from

VGC, reporting around the broadcast. Their headline calls it confirmed; the confirmation is Rockstar speaking to them rather than Rockstar publishing anything.

    Switching between the two leads

The player switches freely between Jason and Lucia, as Grand Theft Auto V let a player switch between its three leads.

An Extended Look shows the player moving between the two leads repeatedly — while they travel, mid-firefight, and when they are on different floors of a building. That settles the substance and not the wording: Rockstar demonstrated the switch without describing it, so how freely it is available, and whether a mission can withhold it, remain unstated. We publish what was shown as an observation and hold the word “freely” open.

    Where it came from

Not traceable to a single artefact. It is an inference from Rockstar confirming two leads, repeated widely enough that it now reads as something somebody announced.

    How this has moved

    1. Speculation

Rockstar has confirmed two leads and has said nothing about how a player moves between them. Everything published on switching is drawn from the fact that there are two, and an earlier game having a mechanic is not evidence that this one does. It is a reasonable guess, and it is a guess.

    2. Community observation28 August 2026— where it stands now

The weapons shown have been identified by name

The firearms in the Extended Look include a Moreland 850 shotgun, a pump-action shotgun and a Duke 556 assault rifle, alongside the Molotov used on the getaway car.

No weapon is named on screen in the Extended Look, so every model name in circulation is an identification made from a frame. GamesRadar's are careful and specific and they remain readings: a logo, a silhouette, a resemblance to a real-world firearm. The Molotov is the exception that proves the point — it is obvious from use rather than identified from a marking. None of this has entered our weapon database, which records what a game establishes about itself.

    Where it came from

GamesRadar's running catalogue of Grand Theft Auto VI weapons, built by identifying models from published footage — in several cases from a manufacturer logo above a magazine.

  • Unverified25 August 2026

What the leaked material is taken to show

The footage circulating since August 2026 shows Grand Theft Auto VI as it will be when it ships in November.

Nothing first-party describes the material, so there is no way to establish which build it came from or how much of it survives into November — and material taken from a studio mid-project is a record of work in progress rather than a description of a finished game. Nothing from it has reached our confirmed record and nothing will on this evidence.

    Where it came from

No single artefact. It is the assumption running underneath most discussion of leaked material — that what is in it is what the game is — and it is almost never stated plainly enough to be argued with.

What no longer stands

Claims that were superseded, or that checkable evidence contradicts. They stay published — a claim that quietly disappears teaches a reader nothing about how much to trust the next one.

How to read this

The assessments

Every assessment used anywhere above, including inside a claim's history. Each one is our judgement rather than a score.

Credible report
Reported by a newsroom with a record on this game, and not corroborated.
Confirmed by Rockstar
Rockstar has stated it themselves.
Strongly supported
Independently reported and corroborated, with no first-party statement behind it.
Speculation
An inference. Nobody has stated it.
Community observation
Established by reading Rockstar's own published material, rather than by Rockstar saying it.
Unverified
In circulation with nothing behind it that anybody can check.
Superseded
It was true, and the position has since changed.
Debunked
Checkable evidence contradicts it.
