Mission 55 of 105Story mission
C.R.A.S.H. has a journalist working on them and wants him and his source dealt with together, which means following him rather than shooting him. Carl collects a sniper rifle from a building site and picks the reporter up at Cranberry Station.
The tail runs the length of the state: onto a train at Cranberry, off it at Market Station in Los Santos, into a taxi, and finally to the meeting the whole job exists to interrupt. Getting too close at any stage ends it.
Every stage of this mission measures how close Carl is, and the failure condition throughout is being noticed rather than being shot at. The rifle's zoom is the tool for keeping eyes on him from a distance that is safe.
The reporter travels by rail from San Fierro to Los Santos and the mission accepts either being on the train or keeping up with it. Riding it is the simpler of the two, because it removes the possibility of losing him at a level crossing.
The contact only appears at the end of the taxi ride, and both men are the target. Waiting for the meeting to happen before taking the first shot is the whole point of the tail — killing the reporter early loses the source.
