Van Heist

Mission 9 of 67Story mission

01/03

Briefing

A Securicar full of payroll cash leaves Chinatown on a fixed route and Joey wants it in a warehouse at Portland Harbor. It is armoured, so shooting at it accomplishes nothing at all — the only way in is to hit it with something heavier until the crew give up on it.

It is the mission that teaches GTA III's most transferable lesson: in this game a bus is a weapon.

02/03

Objectives

  1. Damage the Securicar
  2. Take the van to the lock-up

Walkthrough

  1. Bring mass, not guns

The van's armour ignores bullets and a damage meter tracks progress instead, so the tool is a heavy vehicle. A bus or a coach does in a few impacts what a car takes a great many to manage.

  2. Two hits and the police are interested

Ramming an armoured car in the street brings at least a two-star wanted level, and it arrives well before the crew bail out. The rest of the mission is done with it.

  3. Drive it out through the pursuit

Once the crew abandon it the Securicar is Claude's, and its weight is now an advantage — it pushes police cars aside rather than being stopped by them. Reaching the harbour warehouse clears the wanted level automatically.

  • Gives the job

Joey Leone, as they appear in GTA III.

Salvatore's son, running a garage in Trenton and expecting to inherit the family on the strength of the surname alone.
