The Big Score (Subtle Approach)

Mission 79 of 83HeistThe Big ScoreOne of two approaches: Subtle

01/05

Briefing

The Union Depository taken quietly. Michael and Trevor go in dressed as security, walk the gold out through the front of the building in an armoured van, and Franklin keeps the roads clear from a traffic control room while the convoy moves.

One of two versions of the last job. The subtle approach is the one where most of the mission is composure rather than gunfire — and its distinctive criterion is a limit on how often you touch the traffic lights.

Walkthrough

  1. The tunnel and the stinger

The opening is a drive against a clock, and it is generous if taken directly. Deploy the stinger where prompted and move clear before the vans arrive — standing on it is a scripted failure rather than a hazard.

  2. Inside the depository

Nothing in the vault sequence is scored, so there is nothing to be gained by hurrying it. Follow the manager at his pace.

  3. The traffic lights

Signal Man is the criterion that catches people out: fewer than ten light changes across the whole convoy run. Change a light only when a van is genuinely approaching a junction, and resist correcting a light you have just set — a double-tap counts twice.

  4. The Merryweather ambush

The one real firefight, and where the headshot and accuracy criteria are settled. Fight it from behind the vans rather than advancing; the enemies come to a fixed set of positions, and holding a single angle keeps accuracy above sixty per cent.

04/05

Gold Medal

3 criteria, all of which have to be met in a single run. Failing one does not fail the mission — it costs the medal.

  1. Headshots

Kill 20 enemies with a headshot.

  2. Signal Man

Perform fewer than 10 traffic light changes.

Change a light only at a junction a van is actually approaching.

  3. Accuracy

Finish with a shooting accuracy of at least 60%.

Lester Crest, as they appear in GTA V.

    Lester Crest

    Heist planner

The planner behind the crew's largest scores. Physically frail and technically formidable, he is the reason a job that should be impossible turns out to have a route through it.
