Robbing Uncle Sam

Mission 14 of 105Story mission

01/03

Briefing

The National Guard keeps a depot at Ocean Docks and Ryder decides that Grove Street should have what is in it. The way in is a switch on the far side of a wall, shot through a gap rather than reached, which is the mission's one puzzle and the thing it is remembered for.

Inside there is a forklift, a stack of crates and a great deal of military attention. Everything Carl and Ryder take has to be loaded and driven back out to the Willowfield lockup.

Objectives

  1. Get in the van with Ryder
  2. Drive down to the compound at Ocean Docks
  3. Open the front gate by shooting the switch on the other side of the wall
  4. Shoot the switch to open the front gate
  5. Get in the van
  6. Head to the lockup in Willowfield

Walkthrough

  1. The switch

The gate is opened by shooting a switch that is not on Carl's side of the wall, and the mission states this twice because it is the step people stall on. Line the shot up through the gap rather than looking for another way in.

  2. Loading under fire

The depot is guarded and the loading is done with a forklift, which is slow and cannot fight back. Clearing the yard before starting on the crates costs less time than trying to do both at once.

  3. Out and home

The van is the mission — losing it loses the job — so the drive back to Willowfield is worth taking carefully even with pursuit behind it.

Where this mission leads

Who this mission brings together, and the ground it covers.

  • Playable

Carl Johnson, as they appear in GTA: San Andreas.

Home in Los Santos after five years in Liberty City for his mother's funeral, and stopped by the same two police officers who drove him out. Rebuilding the family's standing turns into rebuilding most of the state's.

  • Gives the job

Lance Wilson, as they appear in GTA: San Andreas.

A Grove Street member permanently on the edge of an argument, who takes the same deal Smoke does and is far worse at hiding it.
