Mission 13 of 105Story mission

01/03

Briefing

Ryder has heard about an ammunition train and wants it, and so do the Vagos, who are already robbing it when Carl and Ryder arrive. The Ballas turn up behind them, so the mission becomes a three-way fight over a line of freight cars with Carl defending the thing he came to steal.

Once the train is clear the crates have to be got out, and the police arrive with them. The Pay 'n' Spray is written into the objectives, which by now is the game's shorthand for expecting a wanted level rather than hoping to avoid one.

Objectives

  1. Drive Ryder's truck to the ammo train
  2. Shoot the Vagos robbing the train
  3. Protect the train from the Ballas
  4. Climb onto the back of the train
  5. Use the nearby Pay 'n' Spray to lose the cops
  6. Take the crates back to Grove Street

Walkthrough

  1. Two sets of enemies

The Vagos are on the train and the Ballas arrive to take it from whoever wins. Ryder fights alongside throughout, and the objective only advances when the current wave is down, so there is no benefit to pushing ahead of him.

  2. On the freight

The climb onto the train is an objective in its own right and the footing is narrow. Nothing forces the pace here — the fighting is finished before the climb is asked for.

  3. Clean, then home

Respray before driving to Grove Street rather than after. A loaded truck being chased through Ganton is how this mission is failed at the last objective.

Where this mission leads

  • Playable

Carl Johnson, as they appear in GTA: San Andreas.

Home in Los Santos after five years in Liberty City for his mother's funeral, and stopped by the same two police officers who drove him out. Rebuilding the family's standing turns into rebuilding most of the state's.

  • Gives the job

Lance Wilson, as they appear in GTA: San Andreas.

A Grove Street member permanently on the edge of an argument, who takes the same deal Smoke does and is far worse at hiding it.
