GTA: San AndreasSan Fierro

Toreno's Last Flight

Mission 59 of 105Story mission

01/03

Briefing

The last name from the roof is Mike Toreno, and Woozie's information is that he is leaving San Fierro by helicopter within minutes. Carl gets to the helipad too late to stop him on the ground and has to bring the aircraft down instead.

The rocket launcher and a stretch of freeway are what the mission gives him. Toreno cannot have survived it, which the game states plainly and then spends the next chapter contradicting.

Objectives

  1. Toreno's boarding a helicopter at a helipad nearby — get there and stop him
  2. The helicopter's airborne — get the rocket launcher and bring it down
  3. Get onto the freeway and shoot the helicopter down

Walkthrough

  1. Too late on the ground

The helicopter is always airborne by the time Carl arrives — this is scripted rather than a matter of speed, so there is nothing lost by taking the ride to the helipad carefully.

  2. Height and a clear line

The mission names the freeway because it is the elevation the shot needs. Firing from street level puts the launcher's arc into the buildings; from the freeway there is sky between Carl and the target.

  3. Leading the aircraft

A rocket is slow and the helicopter is moving away, so the aim goes ahead of it. It takes more than one hit and the launcher has to be reloaded between them, which is why the clear line matters more than the first shot.
