Sweet's first job for his brother is the most literal statement of what the Grove Street Families have lost: their own streets are covered in Ballas tags. Carl is handed a spray can and driven to Idlewood to paint over them, then out to East Los Santos to do the same on turf that is supposed to be theirs already.
One of the tags is watched, and the mission ends the way most early Grove Street work does — with a fight nobody planned and a drive home. It is the game teaching the spray can, which stays useful for the hundred tags scattered across the city long after this mission is done.
A tag is covered by holding the spray on it until the Grove Street green fills the whole thing — releasing early leaves it half done and the objective does not tick. The blip moves to the next one only when the current tag is finished.
One of the East Los Santos tags is being guarded. Sweet is armed and fights alongside Carl, so the sensible order is to let the fight resolve before going back to the wall rather than spraying with Ballas behind you.
The mission ends at Sweet's house rather than at the last tag, and the drive back is unopposed. The spray can stays in Carl's inventory afterwards, which is what makes this the tutorial for the collectible rather than a one-off.
