Sweet & Kendl

Mission 3 of 105Story mission

01/04

Briefing

Carl and Big Smoke drive out to the cemetery in Vinewood, where Beverly Johnson is buried and where Sweet and Kendl are waiting. The reunion goes badly. Sweet has not forgiven Carl for missing their brother Brian's funeral and says so; Kendl, who is glad to see him, gives up on the pair of them and leaves to see Cesar Vialpando, her boyfriend and a Varrio Los Aztecas.

Riding away from the grave on bicycles, the four of them are caught by a Ballas drive-by and have to lose the car through Los Santos before they can regroup on Grove Street. It is the first time the game shows what has happened to the neighbourhood while Carl was away.

Walkthrough

  1. The funeral

Nothing is asked of the player until the scene at the graveside ends. Kendl's line about Cesar is the setup for a run of missions much later in Los Santos, and Sweet's about Brian is the wound the whole first act is built on.

  2. Losing the Ballas

The chase is a follow rather than a fight: Carl is on a bicycle and unarmed, and the mission wants distance rather than a body count. Stay on Sweet's wheel through the turns — the route he takes is the route that works — and switch to Ryder when the objective changes.

Unlocks

  • The Johnson House on Grove Street as a safehouse
  • The BMX Challenge

Home in Los Santos after five years in Liberty City for his mother's funeral, and stopped by the same two police officers who drove him out. Rebuilding the family's standing turns into rebuilding most of the state's.
