Mission 53 of 105Story mission
The Da Nang Boys have taken Mike Toreno and are holding him in a van, and Jizzy sends Carl after it with a signal meter rather than a location. The bar strengthens as the van gets closer, which makes the search the first half of the mission.
Getting him out means destroying the van he is in, then getting him clear before the police arrive, then losing them at a Pay 'n' Spray. Toreno spends most of the game after this pretending to be somebody else, and this is where Carl earns the favour he later cannot refuse.
The bar is a proximity meter rather than a compass — it says warmer or colder and nothing about direction. Driving a street and watching which way the reading moves is faster than circling.
The goons come first and the van second, and the mission is clear that Toreno has to be got away from it once it is burning. There is no reward for lingering to finish anything else.
The respray is an objective in its own right. Driving Toreno back to the Pleasure Domes with a wanted level is how this mission is lost after the difficult half is done.
