Mission 1 of 90Story mission
Niko Bellic comes off the Platypus at East Hook after a fortnight at sea, and Roman is waiting on the dock with the enthusiasm of a man who has been lying in letters for years. There is no mansion, no fleet of sports cars and no women: there is a battered cab, a one-room apartment above a Hove Beach shopfront, and a debt to a Russian loan shark that Roman has not mentioned yet.
As an opening it asks almost nothing of the player — drive the cousin home — and the whole of it is one drive across Broker with Roman talking. What it leaves behind is the safehouse the first act works out of.
Nothing is asked during the arrival itself. Roman does the talking, and the only thing to take from it is the shape of the debt the next ten missions are about — he owes money, he has told Niko none of it, and the cab depot is the whole empire.
Follow the radar to Roman's place. Nothing pursues the taxi and nothing is timed; the mission ends on arrival.
Who this mission brings together, and the ground it covers.
