GTA IV

Hostile Negotiation

Mission 52 of 90Story mission

01/04

Briefing

Roman has been taken. Mallorie rings Niko rather than the police, and the mission is a hostage rescue in an industrial building in Bohan with Roman tied to a chair on the top floor and a room full of men between him and the stairs.

It is the only mission in the game Mallorie gives, and it is the one that most directly earns the ending: everything Niko does afterwards is calculated against the possibility of it happening again.

02/04

Objectives

  1. Go to the warehouse where Roman is being held
  2. Roman is on the top floor — rescue him
  3. Follow Roman
  4. Take Roman back to the Bohan Safehouse

Walkthrough

  1. The ground floor

There is an AK-47 near the warehouse marker worth collecting on the way in. Two men are talking just inside and can be taken by surprise before the rest of the floor knows anybody is there.

  2. Working upward

On the first floor the men are to the right as Niko enters the hall — and more come in behind him, so the room has to be watched in both directions.

  3. The pillars

The stairs up are covered from behind pillars and barrels. Take the first pillar as cover and put a grenade at the far one, where a man is waiting with a combat shotgun. Above that there are more out on the pipes with nothing to hide behind.

  4. The last door

Do not simply walk through it — there is a man immediately to the right. Go in with the shotgun already up.

  5. Roman

The man holding him is dealt with by aiming rather than spraying: a pistol shot to the head. There is a Bobcat parked outside for the drive back to the Bohan safehouse.

Unlocks

  • The Middle Park East safehouse
  • Cavalcades from Roman's service

Where this mission leads

Who this mission brings together, and the ground it covers.

  • Playable

Niko Bellic, as they appear in GTA IV.

A veteran of the Balkan wars who arrives in Liberty City on his cousin's promise of a mansion and finds a cab office and a debt. He stays because the man who sold out his unit is somewhere in the city.

  • Gives the job

Roman Bellic's girlfriend, and the reason Niko meets half the people he works for in Liberty City — every early introduction runs through her rather than through Roman.
