Mission 53 of 90Story mission
Gerald McReary runs the family's business from a cell in Alderney State Correctional and his war with the Ancelottis is conducted entirely by telephone. His first job is a car bomb: rig an Ancelotti vehicle, follow it at a distance, and detonate it somewhere the family will understand the message.
It is the game's introduction to the bomb as a mission tool and to the surveillance-distance mechanic several later missions reuse.
The bomb is in an alley off Inchon Avenue, and it goes on the back of the target car — Niko has to be at the rear of the vehicle to place it. Shooting the bomb at any point fails the mission, which is worth remembering during the firefight at the end.
Park on the opposite side of the street from the rigged car rather than behind it. That is close enough to see them leave and far enough not to be part of the convoy when they do.
Hang back. The game warns before it fails, and the warning is the cue to lift off rather than to hold the same distance.
The bomb is triggered by ringing Gerald, from a distance the blast will not reach. Not everybody in the car dies, and the ones who get out are best taken at range with a sniper rifle. Two stars follow.
Who this mission brings together, and the ground it covers.
