Mission 37 of 90Story mission
Clarence Little runs a crew in the East Holland projects and Francis wants him gone. The approach is through a courtyard full of his people, and the mission has a rule about it that catches players out: the fight cannot start before Niko reaches the marker.
Clarence himself ends up cornered and the game offers the choice. He is the most memorable of GTA IV's spared characters — if he lives, he comes back for Niko in the street months later.
Francis rings on the way to say Clarence is on the second floor and that Niko should not start anything before he gets there. Attacking his men in the courtyard first fails the mission outright.
There is a way to skip the building altogether: a sniper rifle from ground level can reach Clarence where he stands, which ends it without the courtyard ever turning hostile.
Played the ordinary way this is a close fight up through the projects, and it is worth arriving with armour and more than one weapon. Clarence keeps running upward and throwing whatever is to hand while his people fire from the walkways.
Clarence begs. Killing him is the job; sparing him pays the same and sets up an encounter later in which he tries to settle it. Two stars follow either way.
