GTA IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony

Bang Bang

Mission 8 of 26Story mission

01/04

Briefing

Three of the men squeezing Tony have to be shown that squeezing Tony has a cost, and the method is sticky bombs: a construction crane, a subway train and a private jet, in that order, in one afternoon.

It is the episode at its most cartoonish and its most efficient, and by the end of it the police radio is talking about terrorism. The scoring rewards restraint in a mission that is entirely about demolition — five bombs, no more.

02/04

Objectives

  1. The first target is a construction foreman. He operates the nearby crane.
  2. Throw several sticky bombs onto the base of the crane.
  3. The crane is rigged to blow, get clear.
  4. Now detonate the bombs to destroy the crane.
  5. The next target is on an out of service subway train, intercept it at the tunnel exit.
  6. Destroy the train using sticky bombs.
  7. Get to the airport. The next target's plane is taking off soon.
  8. You must destroy the plane before it takes off.
  9. Lose the cops.

Walkthrough

  1. The crane: three bombs at the base

The bombs go on the crane's legs rather than anywhere near the cab, and Luis has to be clear before detonating. Three is the number the scoring allows for this target.

  2. The train: one, at the tunnel mouth

The subway car is out of service and has to be caught where it leaves the tunnel. A single bomb on the carriage does it, which is what the five-bomb condition assumes.

  3. The plane: one, before it rolls

The last target is on a jet at the airport with a departure already under way, so this is the leg with a real clock inside the clock. One bomb is enough.

  4. Lose the cops

Blowing up an aircraft on an active runway ends with a pursuit to shed before the mission will close.
