States, cities, districts and landmarks, each nested inside the place that contains it. Liberty City has been built twice and San Andreas twice over; each is one place here, and every title’s version keeps its own picture.

GTA IV
City9 titles
The series' stand-in for New York, and the setting of eight Grand Theft Auto titles. The 1997 original drew it from overhead as one of three cities; the 3D era built it as three islands, opened one bridge at a time; the HD era rebuilt it from scratch as four boroughs with the state of Alderney across the water.
GTA IV
State3 titles
The state across the water from Liberty City. It is a state of its own rather than a fifth borough, and Chinatown Wars leaves it off the map entirely.
