GTA: San AndreasThe Desert

Monster

Mission 70 of 105Story mission

01/03

Briefing

Mike Toreno is alive, which Carl finds out by being summoned to a ranch in Tierra Robada by a man he watched go down in a fireball over San Fierro. Toreno's opening move is not an explanation but a test: a monster truck and a course through the desert against the clock.

It pays on time rather than on completion — between $1,000 and $5,000 depending how fast the checkpoints are cleared — which makes it the only mission in San Andreas whose fee is a sliding scale.

Objectives

  1. Get in the monster truck
  2. Get to the first checkpoint
  3. Clear the remaining checkpoints against the clock

Walkthrough

  1. Driving a monster truck

The truck is enormously tall and rolls if it is cornered like a car. Taking the desert in as straight a line as the checkpoints allow, and letting the suspension deal with the terrain rather than steering around it, is what keeps it upright.

  2. The payment is the clock

The fee scales with the time, so a clean fast run is worth up to five times a slow one. It is also the reason the mission is worth repeating for practice — nothing about it is failed permanently by a bad attempt.
