Briefing
Francis McReary offers Niko money to kill his brother Derrick, and Derrick has already asked Niko to kill Francis. Both men are on the same rooftop in Lancet, both are expecting the other to die, and the game will not let Niko leave with both alive.
It is the hardest of GTA IV's choices because neither answer is obviously right and both are permanent. What is lost with Francis is a deputy commissioner who will clear a wanted level over the phone; what is lost with Derrick is Packie's brother, and Packie never learns which of them Niko chose.
The published sources disagree about what this one pays, and not merely about the amount — they disagree about which brother's death carries a payment at all. No reward figure is stated for it here for that reason.
Objectives
- Proceed to the courtyard park in Lancet
- Use the window cleaning platform on the scaffolding to reach the rooftop
- Eliminate either Derrick or Francis
- Escape the roof and leave the area
Walkthrough
Getting up
The way onto the roof is over the planks in the courtyard to a small window-cleaning lift on the scaffolding, rather than through the building. Take it up and let the meeting begin.
The choice
Both brothers are in the open and either can be shot. Weigh what each is worth afterwards rather than what the mission pays — Francis's ability to make a wanted level disappear with a phone call is the thing that dies with him.
Off the roof
Leaving is an objective in its own right and the lift is the way down. There is no serious pursuit; the mission is over once the area is clear.
